Thornhill straddles Yonge Street at the southern edge of York Region. The Vaughan side runs west to Dufferin and includes established areas like Brownridge, Crestwood and Uplands, plus the newer subdivisions of Thornhill Woods and Patterson north of Rutherford; the Markham side covers the Thornhill Village heritage district and the streets around Bayview.

It is one of the most established parts of Vaughan, with mature trees, a mix of housing from 1970s bungalows to new builds, and condos along Yonge, Centre and Bathurst. Viva Blue runs the length of Yonge to Finch station, and Highway 407 is minutes away for drivers.
