Buyers looking for an estate lot north-west of Toronto usually end up choosing between Kleinburg and King City. They are twenty minutes apart, both sit on the Oak Ridges Moraine, and both have real village centres. The differences are in the details.
Village life
Kleinburg’s Islington Avenue core is the more polished of the two: restaurants, galleries, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection and the Binder Twine Festival every September. King City’s centre along King Road is quieter and more practical.
Lots and homes
Kleinburg has a larger share of newer luxury subdivisions on half-acre and smaller lots, alongside the older estates on Nashville Road. King City skews to genuine acreage: two, five and ten acres are common on the concession roads, with a smaller pocket of newer homes near the GO station.
Commute
King City has its own GO station on the Barrie line. Kleinburg residents drive to Maple or Rutherford GO, ten to fifteen minutes away, but the Highway 427 extension gives Kleinburg the faster drive to Pearson and the 401.
Schools
Both are York Region District and York Catholic. King City adds two well-known private schools, The Country Day School and Villanova College. Kleinburg is closer to the private schools in Vaughan and Woodbridge.
