Burlington is the last GTA city before Hamilton and the one with the waterfront everyone photographs: Spencer Smith Park, the Brant Street Pier and a downtown of condos and restaurants along Lakeshore Road. Behind it the city climbs to the Niagara Escarpment, with the Royal Botanical Gardens on the western edge and Mount Nemo and the Bruce Trail to the north.

Neighbourhoods like Millcroft, The Orchard, Headon Forest and Tyandaga are the family subdivisions; Aldershot in the west is older and closer to Hamilton; Roseland and Shoreacres hold the larger lakefront lots. Burlington, Appleby and Aldershot GO stations all sit on the Lakeshore West line, and the QEW and 403 meet here.
