Pickering is the first city east of Toronto and the one with the shortest Durham commute: Pickering GO is about 35 minutes to Union, and the 401 is right there. The lakeshore neighbourhoods (Rosebank, West Shore, Bay Ridges) surround Frenchman’s Bay and the Nautical Village; Amberlea, Dunbarton and Liverpool are the established family areas north of the highway.

Seaton, north of Taunton Road, is one of the largest new communities in the GTA and is adding detached homes and townhomes at scale. Rouge National Urban Park runs along the western boundary, and Highway 407 with the 412 link serves the north.
