Ajax has one of the longest stretches of public waterfront in the GTA, with Rotary Park and the trail running the whole lakefront. South Ajax is the older, established part of town near the lake and the GO station; north of the 401, subdivisions like Nottingham, Riverside and Audley were built through the 2000s and 2010s and offer newer detached homes and townhomes.

Pickering Village on the western edge is the heritage district with shops on Old Kingston Road. Ajax GO on the Lakeshore East line is about 40 minutes to Union, and the 412 link connects the 401 to the 407 along the town’s eastern boundary.
